Measurement Committee – Participation is Key

I would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the ADM members for electing me Chair of the Measurement Committee. I am ready to lead the charge to achieve the goals and objectives of the Measurement Committee.

I believe participation is key. I would like to take this opportunity to invite interested ADM members to participate in the Measurement Committee by sending me a note via my E-mail: measurement [at] downloadablemedia [.] org.

The Measurement Committee will require a lot of research, analytical analysis and technical knowledge regarding the challenges of measuring media downloads. Even though I am eager to get as many ADM members involved in the process as possible, it is key that appointed committee members have the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve the Committee’s objectives. Once I receive the Charge of the Committee, the number of members and necessary skills will help me determine which ADM members will best serve on the committee. Following the ADM’s kick-off meeting on Monday, I will start a dialog with those who wish to participate to determine which members to appoint. I was just notified there will be no limit to the number of members on a committee. To allow for maximum participation, any ADM member may join the Measurement Committee.

Thanks everyone for the opportunity to serve as Chair of the Measurement Committee. I look forward to making history with everyone.

    Angelo,

I think that this committee is one of the most valuable to me the individual podcasters. I know that I don’t really care what number the committee comes up with. I just want you all to get an answer that all parties can live with so that I can point at my numbers and say they are ADM certified and have that be the end of that conversation.

I think we all are in agreement that whatever numbers we come up with are more based in real eyes and ears than anything that broadcast is using right now.

Thanks for this Angelo, and Jamie, I agree with you. My personal experience producing podcast series for the past 2 years illustrates why I want to join this committee and help solidify standards: our episodes (english as a second language for Japanese people in Japan) routinely got 20-30,000 downloads per week. Our shows hit #2 in the iTunes general charts, and every one has gone to #1 in the education charts.

One particular series has had 1.2+million downloads since it started a year ago (verified both by our server and by feedburner). But it’s such a slog to get Japanese companies to understand the value of these engaged, on demand people, in large part because there’s not a single standard that is ‘certified’ (with all the accompanying fanfare).

So, it’s in that context that I read this article http://tinyurl.com/39weah about NHK (the national broadcaster - huge reach, huge budgets) doing an ESL internet radio show that began in April and topped 4500 downloads by September - and it costs about $5.00 per month…

I want that ADM certification in my arsenal to help large companies here understand and invest resources in the value of, as Jamie said: “real eyes and ears”.

    best,

    Terri
