Today’s guest is Kent Nichols, the co-creator of the online video show “Ask A Ninja,” which has been featured on major television and print news outlets that include CNN, ABC News, the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and NPR. “Ask A Ninja” has been downloaded over 80 million times and was named YouTube¹s Best Series in 2006. The show has propelled the co-creators into Hollywood with a feature film deal and the popular Ninja Handbook. “Ask A Ninja” is one of the first independently produced internet shows to achieve monetary success.
Listen in to hear how Kent and his partner turned $60,000 raised from friends and family into a brand that generates estimated revenues of over $1MM per year. Kent offers recommendations for content creators including the most important rule for building an audience and reasons for working with ad buyers and Hollywood agents.

Many of the comments Kent made are so TRUE! This is the best content I have listened to so far about the “Wild West” space that is new media.
New media is really more of a business than anything else, and so few of the content creators that are in media will EVER realize that. Kent sounds like the ideal mix of persistent entrepreneur mixed with creative to get something made and more importantly DISCOVERED.
I wish more effort was focused on this critical mix of business and creative. Everyone thinks they have the best idea for content, but those same people rarely think about the other side - the commerce side. Kent hits this spot right on the money (pun intended).
