Get the DownloadWelcome to “Get the Download” from the Association for Downloadable Media.

There are few people in the online video world who have as deep and broad an understanding of the space as Tim Street. The man behind French Maid TV has a long list of “old school” media triumphs to his credit, and several years ago was among the very early group of people who saw the rise of online video and began exploring ways to best address the space.

Tim StreetI credit Tim with helping me better understand the evolutionary cycle of online video, specifically in terms of how new technologies get folded into the mix. While munching happily on salads at a Burbank eatery, Tim and I spoke at length about the state of online video today. In particular we spent time discussing not just the basic challenge of monetizing but the bigger issue of how today’s content creators need to view their work in order to be successful.

In this episode of ADM’s Get the Download, Tim talks about the differences between sponsorship and advertising, the challenges of content ownership and how everyone doing online video should be building their content to be stolen.

Tim Street is a Writer, Producer, Director, and Creator/Executive Producer of the popular viral video French Maid TV. He is one of the few individuals who have been successful in both new media/podcasting and traditional media. Tim is considered one of the industry’s most successful viral video producers, his online videos have garnered over 30 million downloads and his productions constantly skyrocket to the top of the charts.

In addition to creating online viral videos, Tim is a sought after paid speaker and award-winning short form director. In 2008 Tim launched APE Digital a social media studio that focuses on the creation of emotionally engaging content for young men. Tim’s speaking credits include Digital Hollywood, Mac World, Blog World, New Media Expo, and Podcast Academy.

Tim has produced short and long form TV for Paramount, Universal, Warner Bros., ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, The WB, UPN, Fine Living, Food Network, Game Show Network, Nickelodeon, Spike TV and many others.
