History of the ADM

The first meeting was held May 8th in San Francisco to consider the idea of forming an industry association. Fifteen companies attended and unanimously ratified the formation.

A second meeting was held June 6th in New York to lay down the fundamentals of the organization.

The organization will be called "Association for Downloadable Media."

It must be open and accessible to a wide variety of participants from the advertising and marketing industry to individual podcasters and media companies to vendors and measurement companies.

There will be an interim or transitional board to carry forward the organization until an official vote commences in September 2007.

The interim board is comprised of those attendees who attended one or both of the organizing meetings and agrees to inclusion and to provide assistance in the myriad details required to form a significant industry association.

These individuals formed into teams to organize the association. The groups covered Website Development, Meeting Logistics, Nomination and Voting Process, Association Relationships, Public Relations and Site Content, Business Logistics and Membership Outreach.

In September, there will be a 4 person executive board consisting of a Chairman, a Vice Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer and an 11-person board of advisors. In addition, when funds permit, a Director will be hired.

There will be an initial group of committees formed and committee Chairs will be voted in during the same September election as the Executive Board and Board of Advisors.

  • Advertising Standards: Formats/Units/Sponsorship
  • Measurement: Audience, Market Data (Psychographic, Demographic, Usage, Consumer Insights) and Advertising Efficacy
  • Outreach and Education (Consumer & B2B)
  • Terminology Standardization (Taxonomy)
  • Membership Committee

Further announcements will be made about the nomination and voting process.

Anyone who runs for any official seat or participates on any committee must be a member.

Tier One - Individual
$150/year for individual podcasters

Tier Two - Corporate
$1,000/year for all others

There is also a membership options for Non-Profit organizations, at $150/year.

There will be a teleconference in August for members to integrate all new members and begin the voting process for board and committee seats. This conference call will get everyone briefed before the in-person meeting in September at the Podcast and New Media Expo.
